Talking all about them curls on the blog today. I will be doing a continous hair series just sharing my tips and tricks to curly hair throughout this Beauty page. Personally, this is such a sensitive topic for me because of how much I have struggled with my hair throughout my teenage years and now I feel that I am finally at a good place I can talk all about them and actually have control over what my hair does. I have recently discovered the curling definition technique of twisting and im in love! It is such a simple technique and I find myself using just one or two of the products listed down below during this process. This method helps keep my curls defined and looking real good day 2 and 3, which all us curly girls know is a real struggle. THE PROCESS: After getting out of the shower while your hair is still soaking wet, you want to section it off into four equal parts. With each section get the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie and evenly distribute the product throughout my hair. Sometimes using detangler, if needed. Then grab each individual curl and twist it around your finger in the shape that the curl is forming (You want to make sure you twist away from your head on either side to capture that natural curl shape!) Once you're done twisting, let it air dry for about 10-15 minutes then go on diffusing it to really get that curl to stick. You want to make sure to diffuse till your hair is about 90% dry. And just like that voila! you're done. No heat, no pain, and you got them gorgeous curls. Doing this method has really helped keep my curls in tact and I love the way they turn out. I also dont have to worry about how they will turn out the next day as I just pineapple my hair on top of my head during the night. Ultimately curly hair is all about embracing what you got and I absolutely adore the natural movement going on right now. At the end of the day it is what makes you, you! - J.
PRODUCTS I USE:
To define my curls I use this holy grail product which is the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie. When I first got this product I didn't really get to enjoy it because I didn't really know how to use it but since doing twist outs with my hair it is a true game changer. It keeps my hair defined and moisturized all day. Plus their is a travel size for those quick twist out touch ups.
I am a Shea Moisture product junkie and this Deep Treatment Masque is amazing. This one was made specifically for dry and damaged hair and the ingredients in it help keep your hair moisturized. I love using this 20-30 minutes before I shower and putting on a shower cap to really keep soak the product in my hair.
Oils are an absolute must when it comes to keeping in that hydration and remaining frizz free on those bipolar winter days. I love love love this TREsemme Keratin Smooth oil for smoothing out frizz in the morning with crazy bed head. The other oil I swear by is the OGX nourishing coconut oil mist. I use both to tame the frizz and it does just the trick.
I just discovered this two leave in's/detanglers and I dont know how I went without them before. I loved the results of these products as I use them after showering to detangle my hair with a Wet Brush or wide tooth comb. The slip is great and it also contributes to the moisture that I want locked in all day.
A refresher spray for curls is my new favorite. When I have to quickly run out the door I reach for this Hair Milk refresher spray by Carol's Daughter to make sure that my curls are hydrated and smell good. I love using Carol's Daughter products because I know I am putting wholesome and natural ingredients in my hair. I hope these tips help you with your curly hair journey and you are inspired to go heat free!
