For years I have always struggled with skin care and finding the right products for myself. When I was younger I never really took my skincare seriously and would go to the store and buy the newest product out there that would make my skin soft and youthful. I never really took into account the ingredients in those products and what I was exactly putting on my face. Now, I feel at my age I am able to invest in quality products and really invest in what is working for me.
Melaleuca is such a big company here in Idaho and sometimes it feels like you cant escape the hype with some of their products. Guys, I have literally tried everything for my skin and this Melaleuca Clarity System is amazing. It is a system that you can use for acne prone skin.
The first step is the foaming cleanser which you can use to wash your face. I love how foaming this product gets and how much of a clean feeling you can have.
The second step is the toner that can sting at first but feels really great on the skin after.
The third step is the moisturizer featured at the bottom of this post.
The final step is the spot treatment which I LOVE. It comes in an oil or cream form, I prefer the cream version the best because it reacts better to my skin.
Apple Cider Vinegar is one of those good ingredients out there that can do alot for the skin and inside the body. I really enjoy mixing this with the Indian Healing Clay. This healing clay is so great for the face and really takes out all impurities. I use equal parts clay and A.C.V so that it can turn into a paste material. It does sting at first but after a while you get used to it.
Winters in Idaho can be so harsh on the skin for this Virginian girl, so I have to try and get as much moisture from a product that I can. This Shea Moisture Coconut Oil Daily Hydration Overnight Face Oil is so amazing for those dry Winters! I wanted a face oil that was thick but also hydrating and won't stick on my face. I found this one and tried it immediately to find that it sunk so beautifully into my skin.
This Thayers Witch Hazel Alcohol-Free Toner is no joke. My skin has totally transformed since using this and I have noticed how much more bouncy and shiny my skin has gotten since using this. Toners are such a transformative part of a skin routine that everyone should incorporate. I do prefer alcohol-free products over the normal ones because my skin reacts more positively to them. This toner comes in Cucumber, Rose Petal and others. I usually spritz this on my face throughout the day in a tiny glass spray bottle that I can easily take with me anywhere.
Body care is equally as important as skin care and so I wanted to share two of my favorites! Again, with Melaleuca but I cannot rave more about their products. This is their popular Renew Lotion with Lavender Essential Oil. I have used many lotions but this one is definitely going to stick. I apply this right after a shower and enjoy the smell along with the thick consistency.
Along with lotion comes lip care for me. I used to put straight up Vaseline on my lips but now that Vaseline has released their Lip Therapy line in several scents I couldn't stop buying them. The size actually lasts a while and this product conditions the lips and gives a great shine.
Talking all about them curls on the blog today. I will be doing a continous hair series just sharing my tips and tricks to curly hair throughout this Beauty page.
Personally, this is such a sensitive topic for me because of how much I have struggled with my hair throughout my teenage years and now I feel that I am finally at a good place I can talk all about them and actually have control over what my hair does.
I have recently discovered the curling definition technique of twisting and im in love! It is such a simple technique and I find myself using just one or two of the products listed down below during this process. This method helps keep my curls defined and looking real good day 2 and 3, which all us curly girls know is a real struggle.
After getting out of the shower while your hair is still soaking wet, you want to section it off into four equal parts. With each section get the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie and evenly distribute the product throughout my hair. Sometimes using detangler, if needed.
Then grab each individual curl and twist it around your finger in the shape that the curl is forming (You want to make sure you twist away from your head on either side to capture that natural curl shape!)
Once you're done twisting, let it air dry for about 10-15 minutes then go on diffusing it to really get that curl to stick. You want to make sure to diffuse till your hair is about 90% dry. And just like that voila! you're done. No heat, no pain, and you got them gorgeous curls.
Doing this method has really helped keep my curls in tact and I love the way they turn out. I also dont have to worry about how they will turn out the next day as I just pineapple my hair on top of my head during the night. Ultimately curly hair is all about embracing what you got and I absolutely adore the natural movement going on right now. At the end of the day it is what makes you, you!
PRODUCTS I USE:
To define my curls I use this holy grail product which is the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie. When I first got this product I didn't really get to enjoy it because I didn't really know how to use it but since doing twist outs with my hair it is a true game changer. It keeps my hair defined and moisturized all day. Plus their is a travel size for those quick twist out touch ups.
I am a Shea Moisture product junkie and this Deep Treatment Masque is amazing. This one was made specifically for dry and damaged hair and the ingredients in it help keep your hair moisturized. I love using this 20-30 minutes before I shower and putting on a shower cap to really keep soak the product in my hair.
Oils are an absolute must when it comes to keeping in that hydration and remaining frizz free on those bipolar winter days. I love love love this TREsemme Keratin Smooth oil for smoothing out frizz in the morning with crazy bed head. The other oil I swear by is the OGX nourishing coconut oil mist. I use both to tame the frizz and it does just the trick.
I just discovered this two leave in's/detanglers and I dont know how I went without them before. I loved the results of these products as I use them after showering to detangle my hair with a Wet Brush or wide tooth comb. The slip is great and it also contributes to the moisture that I want locked in all day.
A refresher spray for curls is my new favorite. When I have to quickly run out the door I reach for this Hair Milk refresher spray by Carol's Daughter to make sure that my curls are hydrated and smell good. I love using Carol's Daughter products because I know I am putting wholesome and natural ingredients in my hair. I hope these tips help you with your curly hair journey and you are inspired to go heat free!
